Clube de Judo 2009

Who we
are.

01

Our mission

Clube de Judo 2009's mission is to teach and promote judo in an accessible, safe and responsible way, providing children, young people and adults with the opportunity to practise, learn and develop, regardless of their experience or sporting ambitions.

Through close support and teaching suited to each stage of development, we aim to help athletes become more confident, disciplined, independent and prepared to face challenges, on and off the tatami.

02

Our vision

We aim to be a leading club for teaching and developing judo in Benfica, recognised for the quality of our work, our close relationships with athletes and their families, and our ability to combine education, inclusion, recreational practice and competition.

We aim to keep growing sustainably, bringing judo to more people, strengthening our community ties and providing a place where every athlete can learn, develop, belong and overcome challenges.

The club's
Judo 2009

Clube de Judo 2009 is a non-profit sports association, founded on 13 January 2009 and closely connected to the parish of Benfica. Since its foundation, the club has taught and promoted judo, giving children, young people and adults the opportunity to discover, practise and develop in this Olympic sport.

We are registered with the Portuguese Judo Federation and the Lisbon District Judo Association under registration number 850, and are fully part of Portugal's judo federation structure. Our athletes are registered with the federation and covered by the corresponding sports insurance, practising within the official framework of Portuguese judo.

At Clube de Judo 2009, we support every athlete from their first time on the tatami through the most advanced stages of their development. We work with people who want to start a physical activity, gain confidence, learn to fall safely or simply join a group, as well as athletes who want to compete and develop a competitive career.

Competition is one aspect of our work, but it is not the only measure of an athlete's success. In judo, learning to respect your opponent, control your body and emotions, persevere through difficulties and get back up after a fall is as important as winning a contest.

That is why we teach judo as more than physical training. Every class is an opportunity to develop discipline, independence, confidence, balance, responsibility and respect for others. These values are built on the tatami, and stay with athletes at school, at work, at home and through life's other challenges.

The club welcomes athletes of different ages, experience levels and goals. There is room for those trying judo for the first time, those seeking regular exercise, those returning after several years and those wanting to compete. Everyone develops at their own pace, within a group and supported by our coaches.

Beyond developing athletes, we want to help people become confident, responsible and able to face difficulties. This understanding of judo has guided Clube de Judo 2009 since its foundation, and we continue to share it every day with the Benfica community.
